Frequently Asked Questions
What do you mean by 'monitored alarm'?
A 'Monitored' alarm means that your alarm and all of its components – including smoke alarms etc. – are connected to SafeGard's 24/7 Monitoring station by phone line. If there is an alarm activation, we know about it immediately.
What else do you monitor?
In addition to burglary activations, our Monitoring Station can monitor the status of your alarm battery and any batteries in remotes or battery-operated sensors. Plus the status of your power supply (power cuts) and phone line. We can monitor medical alarms, panic alarms and smoke/fire detectors.
For businesses, we can monitor whether staff members are entering premises after hours and if your business is opened and closed on time. For more see Monitoring Benefits
Do you install everything?
We have trained installers and technicians who can install and and all of your alarm components, whether in a new home or existing.
Our alarm was in the house when we moved in, and we have never used it. Can you hook it up for us?
If the alarm is still in operable condition we can service it and hook it up to our Monitoring Station.
We have forgotten our alarm code. Can it be reset?
Yes it can. If you are monitored by SafeGard or we installed the alarm, we can probably talk you through this over the phone. In other cases our Techs can reset your alarm and allow you to set a new code.
Can you just sell us the alarm and we install it ourselves?
Yes we can. We have alarm-only packages from $495
We live in Karori. Do your guards cover our area?
Yes. We have guard coverage over the greater Wellington area, Kapiti Coast, Horowhenua, Wairarapa and many other districts. If you live outside these areas and wish to know if we can Monitor you, contact us here.
We have cats. Won't they set off the alarm?
They certainly can, if the sensors are an older type or non-pet ignore. But we can install pet-ignore sensors that will allow you to leave your cats inside. (Dogs too, if required.)
You offer free guard response for monitored clients... is this for every callout, no matter what the cause?
Unfortunately no. For genuine alarm-activated guard callouts, the guard response is free. But in some circumstances, such as if you left the front door open when you went out, there may be a charge for guard response. We can help each other to avoid this happening.
I only want my alarm to be monitored for the three months I'm overseas. Is that possible?
Yes. Our advertised monitoring fee is for a 12 month contract, but we can certainly look at short term contracts.
What happens if I accidentally set my alarm off when entering the premises?
You will receive a phone call from our friendly Monitoring Team and be asked for your password.
